BERKELEY, Calif - Saint Mary's Women's Tennis began their season today at the Cal Fall Invite, featuring performances from returners and newcomers.
The Gaels started off strong on day one with
Juliette Daries and
Tian Yu Dong where they competed in the Gold open double court. They defeated Justine Dondonay and Sarah Medik from Long Beach State with an 8-6 win.
Daries and Yu continued to dominate in the quarterfinals where they competed against Warisara Lee and Weronika Ejsmont from Sacramento State and won 8-5. The duo is set to play in the semifinals Saturday morning at 8:30am.
In the White open double court,
Sofia Daryaie played with
Stefanie Silva where they defeated Madelyn Ferreros and Irene Riva from Sacramento State with an 8-3 win.
Dong defeated Sarah Medik from CSULB 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the second round in Blue open singles, where she'll face Katjia Wiersholm tomorrow at 10:00am.
Madison Weekley and
Olivia Rook competed in the Grey open double court where they had a first round bye allowing them to automatically qualify to the quarterfinals. Weekley and Rook came up short against Avery Pope and Bitsy Tullis from BYU with a score of 4-8.
Daries also competed in the Gold open court single where she fell short against Delanie Dunkle from Cal Poly 6-1 both times. Rook also competed against CSULB, Dondonay, where she lost 6-3, 6-4.
Silva competed against San Jose State's Carolina Millan, in the blue open singles, where she is the only Gael to push a third set. Millan won the first set 6-1, Silva in the second 6-2, and Millan moved on to the next round where she finished 6-1.
