BERKELEY, Calif. - Saint Mary's Women's Tennis took on day dne of the Cal Winter Invite with multiple Gaels moving on to the next round.
In the singles, six SMC players competed, where three of them were able to defeat their opponents, Cal Poly.
Stefanie Silva took on Eliza Bates with a 6-3. 6-2 win.
Sofia Daryaie went head to head with Sarah MacCallum with a 6-3, 6-3 win. The last Gael with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Cal Poly was
Madison Weekley who faced Natalie Lynch.
Saint Mary's also dominated in the doubles with three of four duos winning against Cal Poly. The unstoppable duo for SMC,
Tian Yu Dong and
Juliette Daries took on Kennedy Buntrock and Melissa LaMette 7-6(4).
Iman Khan and
Olivia Rook defeated their competitors Delanie Dunkle and Peyton Dunkie 6-4. Finishing strong for the Gaels, Daryaie and Silva defeated Eliza Bates and Romane Mosse 6-4.
SMC fell short in the singles when Romane Mosse defeated Yu Dong 6-4, 7-6. Daries put up a fight against Cal Poly Buntrock pushing the set to three, but losing to the Mustangs 6-3, 7-6(4), and 6-1. USF Azaria Hayes took on Gaels
Jamie Pope where SMC was taken down 6-3, 7-5, and 6-0.
In the doubles, duo Weekley and Pope put up a fight against Cal Poly Lynch and MacCallum, losing 6-2.
Day two is postponed due to rain in the forecast, but play is will resume on Sunday.
