

WBB | Aokuso Nabs Fourth Freshman of the Week Award After Clutch Performance in Portland

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. –Zeryhia Aokuso has earned her fourth West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week Award after scoring a career-high 24 points in the Gaels 73-67overtime win at Portland this week.
Aokuso scored six of the Gaels first eight points and made a career-high 10 field goals on 17 shots on her way to those 24 points. She was 5 of 7 for 13 points in the second half alone, and hit the game-tying basket with 25 seconds remaining to help SMC send the game to overtime. Aokuso had her first multiple-three pointer game this week with two threes at Gonzaga.
The Amarillo, Texas native has scored in double figures 12 times this season and is averaging 10.7 points per game. She is shooting 49.7% from the field and is 9 of 22 (40.9%) from three-point range on the season, along with shooting 78.9% from the free-throw line.
She also received Freshman of the Week honors for the opening week of the season after two double-digit scoring performances in the Gaels' first two games, after her 10-point, seven-assist effort in a win over San Jose State, and after scoring 10 points versus Pacific and a career-high 19 points in a win over San Diego.
The Gaels return to action this Thursday when they play the Pacific Tigers in Stockton, Calif. at 6:30 p.m.
