WTEN | Gaels Look To Get Their First Win in Eugene Against EWU and UO

MORAGA, Calif, - The Saint Mary's Women's Tennis team are heading to Eugene, Oregon this weekend to compete against Eastern Washington University on Saturday and University of Oregon on Sunday.

LAST TIME OUT
The Gaels started the spring schedule with 4-3 loss to Seattle University with all singles matches being completed and only one doubles match not finishing. 
 
The Redhawks secured the first point of the day defeating SMC duo Olivia Rook and Maddison Weekley and duo Stefanie Silva and Sofia Daryaie
 
Rook evened the score by defeating Jade Quintana in the singles 6-1, 6-3. Seattle University took the next two points giving them a 3-1 lead by defeating Daryaie 6-4, 2-6 and Tian Yu Dong 3-6, 0-6. SMC remained competitors in the game, tying the score 3-3 with a Silva win 6-1, 6-3 and a Daries 6-4, 7(2)-6 win. 
 
The Gaels fell short with a loss to Lamija Avdic in the last singles, giving Seattle University the win. 
 
ABOUT EASTERN WASHINGTON
Prior to the season, EWU was picked by the coaches poll to finish ninth receiving 10 points. So far this season, the team has played two Pac-12 opponents and will be pushing it to three before they match up with Saint Mary's. 
 
The Eagles are 0-2 to start the season losing to No.24 Washington and to Washington State. They have had multiple players push the match to three sets, just falling short to their opponents in the end. 
 
ABOUT OREGON
In their season opener, the Ducks won 7-0 against Portland State and are now on a two game lose streak. They lost to the No.1 ranked team, Northern Carolina 0-4 and to Charlotte 2-4. In their last match, the double came down to an extra-point tiebreaker and the singles came down to the last match to decide the win. Oregon will face Eastern Washington Friday Feb. 1st to try and end their losing streak.
