BVB | Hawley Harrer Named to Preseason All-WCC Team

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The open of the Saint Mary's Beach Volleyball season is less than two weeks away. The Gaels are coming off of a very successful first season under Head Coach Janice Harrer in 2023, and will roll into 2024 after having their first full offseason with Coach Harrer at the helm. The Gaels return many key players from 2023, but the WCC Coaches were particularly impressed with returning graduate student Hawley Harrer, who has been named to the preseason All-WCC team.
Following an all-conference bid on the hardwood in 2022, Hawley picked up a record of 21-12, including 17-11 as part of the number one pairing for the Gaels on the sand in 2023. She picked up ranked wins against pairs from Stanford, Cal, Tulane and Pepperdine. She earned first team All-WCC honors for beach volleyball, her second time earning All-WCC honors on the sand. Hawley was the only non-LMU or Pepperdine player to earn preseason All-WCC honors.
Within the conference, the Gaels were picked to finish in fourth place, just two votes shy of Santa Clara, who was picked to finish in third. The Gaels finished the 2023 regular season in fourth place in the WCC, and defeated San Francisco on day one of the 2023 WCC Beach Volleyball Tournament, before falling to Pepperdine and Santa Clara to bow out two matches shy of the championship, ultimately won by LMU. LMU are the favorites to repeat as the 2024 WCC Champions, with Pepperdine, whom the Lions defeated in the Championship Match, picked to finish second. Here's a look at 2024 preseason WCC Poll:
1. LMU - (36) 6 first-place votes
2. Pepperdine - (31) 1 first-place vote
3. Santa Clara (24)
4. Saint Mary's (22)
5. San Francisco (16)
6. Portland (11)
7. Pacific (7)
