BASE | Harrison's Big Debut Nets Him WCC Freshman of the Week Award

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Connor "Bear" Harrison began his collegiate career with a bang this past weekend, and his big debut earned him the WCC Baseball Freshman of the Week Award for February 19.

Harrison hit two home runs in his first two college games, including a moonshot over the scoreboard in right center in game three that was estimated to go 433 feet by Saint Mary's Trackman system.

The De La Salle product caught two of the Gaels first three games, and went 5 for 8 over the opening weekend with six RBIs and 11 total bases to lead SMC. His big blast in the fifth inning Sunday made it an 8-1 lead for Saint Mary's, but ended up being a critical hit in a game that ended up an 11-8 win for the Gaels.

The Danville, Calif. native was D-1 Baseball's pick for WCC Freshman of the Year in their preseason poll, and Harrison comes to Gaels with a ton of accolades in his high school career. Those accolades include being named the 49ers Cal Hi Sports NCS Player of the year, Bay Area News Group Player of the year, West Coast Preps Baseball Athlete of the year, First Team MaxPreps California All-State Team, East Bay League (EBAL) MVP, and the De La Salle Baseball MVP. As a senior he hit .342/.417/.521 with five home runs, 15 doubles, and 57 RBI.

The Gaels remain at home this weekend when they host Utah Valley for four games from Friday to Sunday at Brother Ronald Gallaher Stadium.
