SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — After the Gaels completed their clean sweep of the Welter Classic this weekend in Bakersfield, sophomore pitcher
Odhi Vasquez has been named the WCC Pitcher of the Week. This is Odhi's second time winning this award, as she was also honored with the accolade on May 1 of last season. This is the first time in program history that the Gaels have earned a WCC weekly award in three consecutive weeks.
Vasquez had not one, but two brilliant outings in the circle over the Gaels 4-0 weekend in Bakersfield. She came on in relief in game one against Montana and tossed five innings of one hit, scoreless softball, preserving a 4-3 lead. She followed that up with a complete game, one hit shutout in the Gaels 9-0 run rule victory over Bakersfield. Odhi fanned eight over the two games. She now owns a team-best 20 strikeouts and 0.161 opponents batting average.
The Gaels will get to showcase their hot play in front of the home fans for the first time this weekend, hosting Wagner for a three game series starting Friday, March 1.
