BASE | Game Two of Midweek Series with San Jose State Up Next

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Saint Mary's Baseball returns to the Bay Area to play at San Jose State on Tuesday evening when they take on the Spartans at 5:05 p.m.

The Gaels came back late against San Jose State in their first meeting on March 5 to make it a two-run game in the ninth inning, but the Spartans hung on for 10-8 win in the Gaels first mid-week game of the season.

They fell behind early against the defending Mountain West Champs when third baseman Dalton Bowling hit a two-out, three-run home run in the first inning for a 3-0 lead.

Saint Mary's would make it interesting with three runs in the eighth and ninth, but the Spartans would go to closer Cade Van Allen who got a fly out to right to end the game and preserve the win.

LAST TIME OUT
Saint Mary's Baseball dropped the rubber match against No. 4 Florida, as the Gators won game three 10-0. The Gaels took Florida to extras in game one's 12-11 loss and defeated the Gators 9-7 in game two, before two-way star Jac Caglianone quieted SMC's bats in the finale.

Saint Mary's Baseball upset No. 4 Florida with a 9-7 win in a back-and-forth game two of the series on Saturday. It's the highest-ranked opponent the Gaels have ever defeated, topping their wins over No. 9 Oregon State in 2007, and over No. 9 Cal State Fullerton in Head Coach Eric Valenzuela's first season at Saint Mary's in 2014.

In game one the Gaels took an 11-9 lead into the bottom of the 10th before the Gators hit a walk-off, three-run homer just fair into the left-field corner.

They earned a spot in the NCAA Stanford Regional where they were the No. 4 seed along with Stanford, Texas A&M and Cal State Fullerton, and Head Coach Brad Sanfilippo was named the 2023 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year.
