BVB | Gaels Put Together Excellent Showing in Day Two of Queen’s Cup

HONOLULU – The Gaels (7-3) played some stellar beach volleyball on day two of the Heineken Queen's Cup, falling to No. 12 Hawaii (4-5) 5-0 before downing Nebraska (9-6) 3-2.

Against the Rainbow Wahine, the Gaels took three of their five matches to a third set, with Sedona Sherman/Sadie Shipman, Allie Cataldo/Angie Bour, and Karmin Brown/AJ Slojkowski all forcing their Hawaii counterparts to bonus sets. Bour and Cataldo put together the strongest overall match, falling in the first set 21-10, before rallying to a 22-20 second set victory. With momentum on their side, Bour and Cataldo came out swinging in the third, but the Hawaii #3 pair eventually outlasted them 15-11.

Match two of the day came down to the wire, with the Gaels eking out the 3-2 victory over Nebraska. Sherman and Shipman made quick work at the number one spot with a straight set victory, as did Brown and Slojkowski, pushing the Gaels ahead 2-1. The final two matches each went three sets. The five flight ended first with Nebraska on top 15-9, but in the three spot, Bour and Cataldo again shined, winning the decisive set of the match 15-8

Bracket play for the Queen's Cup begins tomorrow.
