MTEN | Gaels Take on Two Ranked Teams at Home and Head to San Francisco For Their Last Matches of the Season

MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Men's Tennis team are looking to wrap up their season this week, taking on No. 47 Pacific and No.42 Perpperdine at home, and traveling to San Francisco to take on USF.

LAST TIMEOUT
The Gaels defeated No. 58 Santa Clara, after trailing by two in the singles match. 
 
Saint Mary's started off the doubles by securing the first point of the match as duo Carlos Ramos Membrives and Ellison Greco defeating Luca Lemaitre and Tiago Boschmans 6-4 and SMC duo Mathis Moysan and Thibaud Maxant secured the doubles point with a 7-5 win.
 
The Gaels hit a rocky patch in the singles matches losing the first three sets. The match quickly turned around as Moysan outlasting Sebastian Buxman 6-1, 2-6, 6-4 and Paulo Hugo Etchecoin evened the score by taking down Alexander Eriksson 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
 
Saint Mary's Sophomore Pierre Lieutaud secured the win for the Gaels by defeating Broncos Arjun Honnappa 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5. 
 
ABOUT NO. 47 PACIFIC 
The University of the Pacific had a significant change from last season to this season, where in 2022-2023 the Tigers only had won five games total. This year the team has won 15 matches, sweeping four teams and having a 14 game win streak. Pacific has only lost to ranked teams, No. 64 Oregon 4-0 and No. 58 Santa Clara 4-2. Two Tiger's, Peter Alam and Amar Nabs have received the WCC singles player of the week award. 
 
ABOUT No. 42 PEPPERDINE
No. 42, the Waves, just extended their win streak to three as they swept the Dons 4-0. Two duos for Pepperdine have received West Coast Conference weekley awards, where Linus Carlsson Halldin and George Davis earned their first ranked win and going 2-0 against teams from No. 7 Columbia and No. 10 Harvard the week prior. Waves duo Edward Winter and Pietro Fellin also earned the award after going 2-0 against Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. The team's only loss in conference play is to No. 12 San Diego 4-1. 
 
ABOUT USF
The Dons broke their five game losing streak to UC Santa Cruz after sweeping the Slugs 7-0. Prior to the season, the University of San Francisco's Senior Nil Giraldez, was named to the All-Academic First Team after being on the Honorable Mention list in 2022. The match against the Gaels is the Dons last game of the season.
