MORAGA, Calif. — For the third time this season, San Jose State (10-10) and Saint Mary (12-12) squared off, and for the third time, the matchup went down to the wire. This rendition featured the Spartans narrowly edging out the Gaels 3-2, as San Jose State has now taken two of three vs Saint Mary's this season.

Four of the five matches needed a third set to decide a victor. Things got started when AJ Slojkowski and Sedona Sherman debuted as a pair for the first time this season, playing as the three pair. The duo dropped their first set 21-12, but rallied back to take the second 21-16. Eventually they would drop the third 15-11. The only Gael duo that made things  easy on themselves with a straight set victory was the four flights of Karmin Brown and Angie Bour, playing for the first time together in their careers. Their victory tied things up at one apiece. The Gaels would again fall behind, but Paola Peralta and Chloe Swanson won an epic 17-15 third set to make it all come down to the two flight. Today, that duo was Sadie Shipman and Allie Cataldo, reuniting after playing 15 matches together last season. Shipman and Cataldo kept the sets extremely tight, winning the first in come from behind fashion 25-23, and dropping the second 21-19. They fell behind 8-0 in the decisive third set, but rallied all the way back to cut the deficit to one point. Eventually, the Spartans would get the sideout they needed, earning the match victory 3-2. 

With today's win, Angie Bour moved to 16-8 on the season to pace the Gaels. She has doubled her win total from a season ago. 

The Gaels will have a week to regroup before taking on Boise State and Arizona in Boise.
