MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Women's Tennis team has been selected to participate in the 2024 UTR Sports National Invitational Tennis Championship (NIT) in Bradenton, Florida. 
 
This is the Gaels first NIT appearance and the teams first postseason appearance since 2015. SMC is looking to go head-to-head with No. 1 seed Colorado, who appeared in the NIT last season, along with Appalachian State, and Wyoming.

ABOUT NIT
The top 16 teams, eight men's and eight women's teams from across the country have been selected to participate with the team's UTR Power 6 ranking among top criteria for consideration. These eight teams are looking to compete for national titles. The NIT Championship begins May 5-8 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL, with all matches being aired on Amazon Prime Video. 
 
The women's quarterfinals on Monday May 6th, will take place after the mens on Sunday May 5th. This tournament format will be playoff knockout rounds, with all matches counting towards Verified UTR Ratings. 
 
Each team will play standard college dual matches, meaning three double sets (first to six games; the team that wins two sets wins the doubles point) followed by six single matches (best two out of three sets; each match is worth one point). The match will end once the dual match point is clinched (a team reaches four points). 
 
Not only is the NIT Championship another step forward for UTR Sports as a company, but it continues to elevate the college tennis experience and community by showcasing the sport globally.
