MORAGA, Calif. — While the Gaels proved this past weekend that they are champions on the field, they have also put in championship calibur work in the classroom, with three Gaels honored as first team WCC All-Academic members, and six more being named honorable mention selectrees. The nine combined selectees for the Gaels were the most of any softball program in the conference.
Senior
Marissa Montelongo led off the list for the Gaels. SMC's starting second baseman in every game this season, Montelongo amassed a 3.37 GPA as a health science major. Montelongo was an honorable mention WCC All-Academic selectee last season.
A redshirt sophomore on the field, and junior academically,
Taylor Lane started 51 of 52 games for the Gaels at first base. She totalled a 3.60 GPA as a justice, community and leadership major. This is her first time being recognized as an All-Academic honoree in her first year being eligible for the award.
