MORAGA, Calif. — Following their best WCC finish under the direction of Head Coach Janice Harrer, the Gaels are getting geared up for the 2024-25 academic year. The Gaels have already announced the addition of three incoming freshmen and a junior college transfer for this year after the departure of five of their primary rotation players, and now have signed their first Division I transfer, with the addition of Stephanie Gonzalez, who spent last season at the University of New Orleans.
Originally hailing from Miami, Florida, Stephanie prepped at Doral Academy, graduating in 2023. She played both outside hitter and libero for the Firebirds, leading her squad to back-to-back 7A District 15 Titles in 2021 and 2022. In her senior season, she tallied 145 kills and 157 digs to go along with 28 service aces. On the sand, Stephanie mirrored her indoor accomplishments with back-to-back District Titles, earning Team MVP honors in both her junior and senior years.
Following her prep career, Gonzalez signed on to play for the Privateers of the University of New Orleans. Under the direction of Interim Head Coach Avery Thibodeaux, Gonzalez saw action in 17 matches in the Privateers lineup, 15 of which came in the #5 spot as a true freshman. She went 5-12 in her freshman campaign, gaining invaluable experience from competition reps in just her first year of collegiate competition. Following the culmination of the season, Gonzalez entered the transfer portal, where she connected with Coach Harrer and decided to continue her beach volleyball career in Moraga for the Gaels.
While at Saint Mary's Gonzalez will study biochemistry with plans to attend medical school following graduation. She chose Saint Mary's for the connection to her religious values and amazing atmosphere.
