MBB | Gaels Return to the Mountain America Center in 2024 for a Rematch with Boise State
7/29/2024 9:13:00 AM | Men's Basketball
MORAGA, Calif. — A season ago, Saint Mary's Men's Basketball saw a plethora of Mountain West talent during the non-conference portion of their season. The Gaels took on the likes of New Mexico, San Diego State, Colorado State, UNLV and Boise State. When taking on the Broncos of Boise State, Saint Mary's did make the trek to Idaho, but not to Boise, but rather to Idaho Falls for a neutral site contest at the Hero Arena at the Mountain America Center. For the second consecutive season, the Gaels will return to Idaho Falls to renew hostilities with the Broncos for another thrilling neutral site contest set for December 14. Tickets for the matchup will go on sale on August 2.
Last year's meeting with the Broncos was a thriller. The Gaels erased an early double-digit deficit, and found themselves trailing by just one point at the 13:04 mark of the second half. Both teams traded strong defensive possessions throughout the remainder of the contest, but it was the Broncos who hung on for a narrow 63-60 victory. The Gaels will look to avenge that loss this season. Both teams would continue to thrive from that point and make it to the NCAA Tournament.
While this game will be a rematch on paper, there will be new faces aplenty on both sides. Saint Mary's will bring in a roster that features four true freshmen and two transfers, while the Broncos bring in three true freshmen and four transfers. Key returners for the Gaels will be reigning WCC Player of the Year Augustas Marciulionis and WCC Defensive Player of the Year Mitchell Saxen, while the Broncos return All-Mountain West performers Tyson Degenhart and O'Mar Stanley.
