Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WSOC | SMC Falls 2-1 to Cal After a Back and Forth Battle

BERKELEY, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Women soccer team had a back and forth battle in shot attempts, but came up short 2-1 to Cal. 
 
FIRST HALF SMC 1-0 CAL
The Gaels brought on the heat in just the first 32 seconds of the game as Briana Salvetti shot just too high. The Bears attempted a shot to the bottom center of the goal as SMC goalkeeper Kate Plachy made her first save of the night. 
 
The back and forth shot attempts between the Gaels and California was non-stop as Tessa Salvestrin shot out left followed by Bears leading scorer Karlie Lema shooting and another save for Kate Plachy
 
Salvestrin once again attempted a shot out top, with Cal Julia Leontini attempting to the right. In the 33rd minute, Sydney Middaugh shot bottom right, but Bears goalkeeper Kelly McManus made her first save of the night. Just two minutes later, California attacked Gaels territory with Leontini attempting a shot and Lema shooting bottom center for Plachy to save. 
 
To close out the half, in the 39th minute, the Gaels earned a penalty with Salvetti scoring and putting the first point on the board. 
 
FINAL SMC 1-2 CAL
California started the second half with three attempts before Saint Mary's put up their first. In the 59th minute Emmie Ennis shot top right just going outside of the goal. 
 
In the 63rd minute Cal evened the score as they put one in the back of the net. The Bears took the lead only seven minutes later as Noelle Bond-Flasza put another one on the board. 
 
Emma Barthel and Savannah Schwarze attempted to put another one in the back of the net in the last 10 minutes of the game, but could not convert. 
 
By the end of the night, Cal put up a total of 13 shots to SMC 7. Even though the Bears remained in SMC territory, challenging Plachy, she finished with 6 saves.
