VB | Mya Allen Becomes First Ever Gael to be Named WCC Freshman of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — After their first unbeaten week of the season, Saint Mary's earned their first WCC weekly award since 2023, as Mya Allen was named the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Week. While the Freshman of the Week award was adopted just last year, Allen became the first Gael freshman to win a WCC Weekly Award since Samantha Tinsley won WCC Player of the Week in 2011.
Mya Allen was the Gaels unsung offensive leader this week, going for a team-high 31 kills in their two wins over Pacific and Santa Clara. Allen finished second on the team with 15 against Pacific to go along with two aces and seven digs, then followed that up by leading the Gaels with 16 kills to go along with five digs, and five blocks, a new career-high. For the year, Allen now ranks second on the team with 162 kills despite missing 15 sets throughout the campaign, while ranking third with 87 digs and fifth with nine aces and 19 blocks.
After a pair of five set thrillers, Allen and the Gaels will have a full week to recover before taking on Gonzaga on Saturday in Spokane.
