VB | Thunstrom Leads the Gaels to 2-0 Week, Earns WCC Freshman of the Week Honors

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — The Gaels youth has been well documented this season, with 10 freshmen on the team, all who have shown tremendous growth as the season has worn on. Entering this past week of action, two Gael freshmen, Mya Allen and Ivona Lazovic, had earned WCC Weekly Awards. Add a third to the list, as Miley Thunstrom has captured her first WCC Freshman of the Week honors, after helping the Gaels to a 2-0 week against Pacific and Washington State.
Thunstrom narrowly missed two double-doubles this week, but still helped lead the Gaels to a pair of victories. Against Pacific, she did log a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs to go along with a career-high four aces. She followed that up with a team-high nine kills to go along with 10 digs in an upset sweep of Washington State, the Gaels first win over the Cougs in program history.
Thunstrom and the Gaels will have one more week of action, heading to Southern California to take on the LMU and Pepperdine. The Gaels have already secured at least a 0.500 finish in conference play, and need one more to guarantee a winning WCC record.
