KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The 2025 season was full of several firsts for the Saint Mary's women's soccer program and they got more of those Thursday morning as senior defender Amari Hicks was named to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Third Team for the first Scholar All-American in program history.
Hicks was also named to the Scholar All-West Region First Team to put herself in consideration for the All-America honor while senior midfielder Savannah Schwarze was named to the Scholar All-West Region Second Team. Both Scholar All-Region selections for Hicks and Schwarze also go down as firsts in program history.
Amari Hicks and Savannah Schwarze were vital to the team's defensive success this past season, contributing to 12 wins, 12 shutouts and a conference leading 0.61 Goals Against Average. Schwarze was also a box-to-box threat for the Gaels, scoring three goals while also recording a team high five assists. The duo combined for 33 games played and over 2,800 minutes en route to the team's best season since 2001. These were the first United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region and All-America selections in program history.
Qualifying student-athletes must be of junior athletic standing or above, be in their second year at the current institution if a transfer student, have at least a 3.40 cumulative GPA, play a minimum of 75% of games during the season and be an elite player as supported by playing honors (i.e., All-American, All-Region, minimum all-conference).

"I am so proud of these two for earning these awards", said SMC head coach Theresa Romagnolo. "Amari and Sav are some of the hardest working players on and off the field. These awards are a testament to our culture and the kind of season we put together as a group this past year. I'm really proud of all their accomplishments and their recognition on the national stage" (Romagnolo).
