MGOLF | Gaels Fall Just Short on Day Three of El Macero Invitational, Second Place Finish
4/13/2025 6:31:00 PM | Men's Golf
EL MACERO, Calif. - Saint Mary's fell to second place today but continued their streak of top-two finishes with two in a row. A challenging course on day three and wind played a factor today for the Gaels and the entire field, which saw a mean score of 14.24 over-par. The Gaels concluded their day at 299 (+11), which saw them fall from first to second, ending their weekend at two-over as a team.
Senior Zack Missigman had the best afternoon score for Saint Mary's, where it was an up-and-down round that scored him even par. He would also end the weekend in t-19th individually at (+4). The back nine proved just as hard as the front for each Gael, where birdies were hard to come by and bogeys took their toll on the scorecard.
Junior Aidan Lee still had an impressive finish in the field where he ended the three-day event at one-over-par. Lee also had an up-and-down day, closing his round out with a birdie on the 13th hole and five straight pars to take him to five-over. This performance would secure him a t-9th finish alongside fellow WCC golfer in San Diego's Jaden Cantafio.
With the WCC Championships right around the corner, the Gaels gathered some momentum before heading into the two-week break. While they didn't lock down the tournament win, they placed second above fellow WCC members Gonzaga, San Diego, Washington State, San Francisco and Pacific. This is their seventh top-five team finish out of their 12 tournaments on the year.
Full tournament results can be found HERE.
After the quick turnaround with two tournaments in a span of seven days, the Gaels will take two weeks to prepare for the conference championships in Fairfield starting on April 25th. The Gaels will try to maintain their momentum and improve on their fourth-place finish at last year's WCC Championship.
