SAN FRANCISCO – In their final meet of the season, the Gaels Men's Track squad threw down some of their best times of the year, reaching their peaks as the end of the academic year nears. 13 Gaels competed at San Francisco State today in three different events. When the dust all settled, two different Gaels recorded a PR in the 800m, mile and 3000m races.
Starting with the 800m, Julius Largaespada and Moss Michelsen each ran their first sub-two minute races at this distance in countable competition. Largaespada placed 7th in the field of 16 with a time of 1:57.61, while Michelsen finished at 1:58.87, good for ninth. Jacob Bravo also ran a sub two minute time of 1:59.70, good for 10th, however, the grizzled veteran Bravo had accomplished that feat before in his four year Gael career.
In the mile, freshman phenom Daniel Martinez wowed again, running the fourth fastest time in program history at 4:18.69, finishing in sixth out of the 26 runner race. Two runners who hold faster mile times than Martinez, Jason Habash and Ethan Gray, placed in 12th and 13th, while Francisco Felix ran his first ever mile as a Gael, coming in at 4:31.46, fast enough to win the third heat of the event.
In the longest race of the day for the Gaels, their distance specialists, Zane Jackson and TK Berhe stole the show. Both Jackson and Berhe, who transferred into Saint Mary's at the start of the year, have become mainstays for the Gaels, and today placed second and third respectively in the 3000m race. Jackson checked in with a new PR of 8:17.83, which keeps him as the third fastest 3000m runner in program history. Just behind Jackson was Berhe, with a time of 8:18.86, a PR that was good for the fourth fastest time in program history.
This meet will bring the 2025 season to a close for the Gaels, a season that saw the Gaels throw down some historic times, as they continue to show their metal as a distance program.
