MORAGA, Calif. - On Tuesday, May 20th, the 2025 All-WCC teams were announced as Saint Mary's earned six all-conference selections. Redshirt junior
Eddie Madrigal earned First Team honors for his first career all-conference selection.
Ian Armstrong and
Aiden Taurek were named to the Second Team while
Diego Castellanos and
Ryan Pierce were given Honorable Mention honors. Armstrong and pitcher
Lukas Sarantos rounded out the selections for the Gaels with spots on the All-Freshman Team.
Eddie Madrigal | R-Jr. | 1B | First Team
Eddie Madrigal has had a sensational year, leading the WCC with 19 home runs, 76 hits, 66 RBI and a .689 slugging percentage. Madrigal was firmly in the Player of the Year conversations all season long as he put together a magical season after suffering a season ending knee injury in 2024.
Madrigal recorded his first career multi-homer game earlier this season in an 8-3 win over LMU that featured a grand slam in the sixth inning to break the game open. His stellar season has also put him into the top-three single-season program ranks in home runs and RBI and he sits just outside the top-ten in runs scored with 51 on the season. He has 26 multi-hit and 21 multi-RBI games this season to lead the team. This is his first career all-conference selection
Ian Armstrong | Fr. | C | Second Team/Freshman Team
Ian Armstrong has been a revelation for the Gaels behind the dish, stepping in as the team's primary catcher as a true freshman playing in 38 games and making 36 starts. Armstrong has been a staple in the bottom half of the team's batting order, slashing .357 from the plate with nine doubles, three triples and five home runs. This is the second straight season Saint Mary's has had a catcher named to the All-Freshman Team after Connor Harrison was named to the team in 2024.
Aiden Taurek | So. | OF | Second Team
Several returners have posted career seasons for the Gaels allowing them to win five straight conference series and record their second straight top-three finish. One of those players was sophomore
Aiden Taurek who led the WCC with 19 doubles while hitting .342 from the plate. Taurek showcased raw power from the plate with 28 extra base hits this season and has also been one of the team's best outfielders with a plus arm and great tracking ability. He has three outfield assists on the season with just one error, good for a .984 fielding percentage. This is also his first career All-WCC selection.
Diego Castellanos | So. | OF | Honorable Mention
Sophomore outfielder
Diego Castellanos also exploded in his second year with the program, hitting .306 from the plate with 55 hits, nine doubles and a career high five home runs. Castellanos has anchored the right field position for the Gaels for the majority of the season and leads all outfielders with five assists on the season and a .990 fielding percentage.
Highlights from the season for the Morgan Hill native include a walk-off home run in the ninth inning to defeat San Jose State 5-4. Castellanos concluded the regular season on a high note with five hits in his final two games including his sixth home run of the season as the Gaels swept Santa Clara to secure the three seed in this year's conference tournament.
Ryan Pierce | Jr. | INF | Honorable Mention
After transferring from Los Medanos College for the 2024 season,
Ryan Pierce has been one of the team's best home run hitters tallying 28 homers over his two-year Saint Mary's career. This season, Pierce has been a slow burn for the Gaels ranking second on the team with 13 home runs and 44 RBI. Pierce has been on the rise for the Gaels over the last month of the season, recording hits in ten of his last twelve games including six home runs and twelve RBI. This is Pierce's second All-WCC selection after being named to the Second Team in 2024.
Lukas Sarantos | Fr. | RHP | Freshman Team
Right hander pitcher
Lukas Sarantos had an unconventional route to the team's "Friday" starter role as he was primarily a reliever to start the season. Sarantos got handed the ball for game one of their series against Pepperdine and the rest was history. Sarantos went five-plus innings in his first four starts to earn three wins. He struck out a career high six batters in his 6.1 innings of work against LMU and has an ERA of 3.00 over his five starts on the season.
