GAELS OUTLOOK
Hard Fought-Battle in WCC Home Opener…
Saint Mary's opened West Coast conference play last Friday against LMU, falling 12-10 in a hard-fought battle at the Soda Aquatic Center. The Gaels trailed by just two goals at halftime before the Lions extended their lead to 9-4 heading into the final quarter. Saint Mary's refused to back down, as they put together a six-goal offensive surge to cut into the Lions' lead. Despite the late comeback effort, LMU held on for the victory. The Gaels will look to carry that fourth-quarter momentum as they continue conference play at home this weekend.
Black and Hachem Leading the Charge…
Mason Black and Leo Hachem have continued to make an impact for the Gaels this season. Black led the offensive charge against LMU, recording his fourth hat trick of the season while adding two assists. The graduate student has now scored in four consecutive matches and ranks second on the team with 21 goals this season. Hachem made his presence felt across the board against the Lions, recording a goal, two assists, five drawn exclusions, and team-high three steals. The freshman continues to lead Saint Mary's offensively with a team-high 30 goals.
ABOUT THE FALCONSÂ
Air Force currently holds a 16-9 record, most recently picking up a 14-8 win over Austin College. The Falcons opened WCC play against Pepperdine, battling through double overtime before ultimately falling 16-15 to the Waves. Senior utility player Tom Leggett leads the nation with 104 goals this season, including a seven-goal performance against Pepperdine.Â
Â
ABOUT THE TIGERSÂ
No. 11 Pacific enters Saturday's matchup 5-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Tigers are coming off a 13-10 victory over San Jose State and a narrow 12-11 loss to LMU. Pacific will face UC Davis on Friday before making the trip to Moraga for Saturday's conference matchup against the Gaels. Freshman Apostolos Georgaras leads the Tigers offensively with a team-high 73 goals this season.
Saint Mary's will first host Air Force on Friday, October 16, with the first sprint scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Gaels will then host Pacific on Saturday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to stick around following Saturday's contest for a postgame autograph signing with the team.
