

MWP | Barcelona Standout Oier Aguirre Joins Gaels Men’s Water Polo for Inaugural Season

MORAGA, Calif. — As preparations continue its first season in program history, the Saint Mary's men's water polo program and head coach James Lathrop have announced the addition of utility player Oier Aguirre out of Barcelona, Spain.
Aguirre brings international experience and 14 years of competitive competition to the Gaels roster. Throughout his career, he has earned recognition as a ten-time National League MVP and a three-time Spain MVP. His accomplishments also include nine Catalonia Championship titles, eight Spain Championship titles, a third-place finish at the European Championships, a World Championship title in 2025, and recognition as one of the Top Five Players at the World Championships.
With an extensive list of accomplishments, Aguirre will provide valuable experience and an important presence in the pool for the Gaels during the upcoming inaugural season next fall.
