MORAGA, Calif. - Saint Mary's women's basketball head coach Jeff Cammon has announced the hiring of assistant coach Michael Floyd, joining the Gaels staff ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Floyd remains in the Bay Area after spending the 2025-26 season as an Associate Head Coach at Sacramento State where the Hornets won 15 games including a Big Sky Tournament victory over Idaho State. Floyd is no stranger to the West Coast Conference and NorCal basketball as he spent nine seasons on staff at Santa Clara from 2016-2025. Floyd helped the Broncos to a 25-win season in 2023-24 which included 12 WCC wins and a WBI postseason appearance. Following the 2023-24 campaign, Floyd was named the interim Head Coach for the Broncos and recorded a 14-17 overall record in just his second career season as a head coach.
Prior to his arrival to California, Floyd was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama where he got his coaching career started. Floyd had coaching stints with the likes of Alabama Southern Community College, Texas A&M Corpus Christi and South Alabama where he was on staff for the Jaguars from 2007-13. Floyd got his first head coaching gig the following season as he was named the interim head coach at West Alabama during the 2013-14 season. The Tigers finished second in the Gulf Coast Conference that season with a 14-6 conference record and received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for their first appearance since 1982.
Floyd was a two-year letterwinner as a student-athlete at both South Alabama and Murray State. He averaged over seven points per game as a true freshman for South Alabama during the 1994-95 season. After transferring to Murray State for his last two seasons, he helped the Racers to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances including a pair of Ohio Valley Tournament titles for some of the most successful campaigns in program history.
Floyd specializes on the offensive side of the ball and will bring a great contrast to the Gaels women's basketball program that led the conference in defense a season ago along with nearly a decade of coaching experience in the WCC.
Saint Mary's will enter year four of the Jeff Cammon era this fall with the Gaels kicking off their 2026-27 season in November. Additional schedule and ticket information will be made available at smcgaels.com.

We're excited to welcome someone with tremendous experience and a proven track record to our coaching staff", said Cammon. "Mike's knowledge of the game, ability to develop players and leadership will make an immediate impact on our program. Most importantly, he shares our values and our vision for building something special here in Moraga" (Cammon).

I'm beyond grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Jeff [Cammon] with the women's basketball program at Saint Mary's", said Floyd. "I've known Jeff for over ten years and I have a ton of respect for him and how he runs his program. I'm excited for what I can bring on the offensive side of the ball and to help continue to move this program forward in a new era of the West Coast Conference" (Floyd).
