WSOC | Kate Plachy Named to United Soccer Coaches Goalkeepers to Watch Preseason List

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fourth-year Gael Kate Plachy was named to the United Soccer Coaches Goalkeepers to Watch preseason list on Friday, standing as one of two West Coast Conference keepers named to the list.
Plachy was a crucial piece to a historic 2025 season for Saint Mary's, where she recorded twelve shutouts, good for second most in a single-season in program history. The redshirt junior finished the year with a career high 65 saves and a 0.61 Goals Against Average, good for 13th lowest in all of Division I. She was named to the All-WCC First Team for her first career all-conference selection and, more notably, was named the 2025 WCC Goalkeeper of the Year. She became just the second Goalkeeper of the Year award winner in program history, with the other being Taylor Poland back in 2020.
The lists are compiled and released by the Division I All-America Committees to promote college soccer leading up to the official start date for the regular season later this month. The lists include United Soccer Coaches All-Americans and All-Region players from 2025 who are scheduled to return for the 2026 season.
Plachy will be a key piece for a Saint Mary's squad looking for its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2001 after narrowly missing out on an at-large bid a season ago. The Gaels open up play for the 2026 campaign on the road on August 12 against Long Beach State before returning to Moraga for their home opener against Fresno State on August 16.
