MWP | Saint Mary’s Adds Australian Graduate Transfer Utility Player Mason Black

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's men's water polo team's inaugural season continues to approach and the Gaels have welcomed the newest addition to the roster, transfer utility player Mason Black.
Coming to Moraga from Brisbane, Australia, Black joins the Gaels as an incoming graduate student following four years at the University of Queensland. He was a member of the first VII from 2018-2021 while competing for the Brisbane Boys College, while helping lead the program to four consecutive championships. Black's team won the title of Queensland School Sport State Champions in 2020.
At the club level, Black and his team competed in the Club Australian Youth Water Polo Championships where they earned third place in the under-18 level and fourth place in the under-16 competition. He was also selected to the Queensland State Squad from 2019-2021and was an invitee and athlete with the Queensland Academy of Sport from 2018-2020.
Nationally, Black was selected for the Australian National Age Group Program Squad for players born in 2003 during 2018 and 2020.
While competing for the Queensland Thunder in the Australian Water Polo League in 2024-2026, Black played in 46 games and tallied 38 Goals.
Black will look to bring his international experience and proven scoring ability to the Gaels as they prepare for the upcoming season.
