MXC | Saint Mary’s Men’s Cross Country Set to Host Saint Mary’s Invitational

MORAGA, Calif. — The Saint Mary's men's cross country team is set to host its first race since the 2021 WCC Championships, with the Saint Mary's Invitational scheduled for this Friday at Newhall Park in Concord. The Gaels are looking to build on their performance at the USF Invitational where they placed 10th overall in a field of 17 teams.

At the USF Invitational, senior Joel Fischer raced in his first collegiate 8K, leading the way for the Gaels and placing 48th in a field of 189 runners. Fischer surpassed 61 runners throughout the race to cross the finish line in 25:14.5, setting his personal best time. Alan Solari and Ethan Gray were next across the line for Saint Mary's, finishing in 25:37.5 and 26:07.3, respectively. Next in for the Gaels was sophomore Anthony Sharp, who finished the race in 26:10.7. Freshman Matteo Byrd rounded out the top five finishers for Saint Mary's after moving up 65 spots over the race to finish in 26:13.4.

A big group of Gaels will run in the home meet with seniors Joel Fischer, Alan Solari, Damian Frausto, Joseph O'Connell, Stuart Terrill, Ethan Gray, Diego Urdiales, Moss Michelsen, Jacob Moffett, juniors Luis Muradas, Emmanuel Moes, Dennis Cheruiyot, Andrew Perez, sophomores Anthony Sharp, Jacob Schuetze, Nick Shoemaker, Jackson Woolf, Luke Davis, and freshmen Matteo Byrd, Noah Barthel, Shane Sparks, and Joshua Sonoda. Terrill holds the fastest 8K time of this group, recording his personal best when running for Richmond at the 2022 Lehigh Paul Short Run where he crossed the finish line in 23:39.2.

The Saint Mary's Invitational will take place at Newhall Park, which features a flat and hard packed gravel surface with four 2K loops. There will be on-site parking in the lot on Turtle Creek Rd. The men's 8000 race will kick off at 8:45 a.m.
