LOGAN, Utah - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team marched into The Bell on Sunday and walked away with a thrilling 1-1 draw against No. 18 Utah State to extend its program record unbeaten streak to 16 games. The Gaels jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute after a converted penalty kick off the right boot of Ashlyn Vaughn for her team leading seventh goal of the season. The Gaels continued to defend at a high level and took their one-goal lead into the break.

The final five minutes featured two more video reviews, including a disallowed goal from Utah State in the 85th minute and then another penalty call, this time against the Gaels, in the 89th minute. The penalty call would be upheld and awarded, as Aggie forward Mia Lopez stepped up to score the attempt and tie the match within the final minute. The goal kept Utah State's home unbeaten streak alive, now sitting at 33 games for the longest such streak in all of college soccer.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Saint Mary's headed to Logan, Utah for the first time in program history on Sunday and walked away with a 1-1 draw against the No. 18 Aggies. The Gaels got on the scoreboard first with a successful penalty kick attempt from sophomore forward Ashlyn Vaughn. Vaughn rifled the shot into the top right corner for her team leading seventh goal of the season, giving the Gaels a one-goal lead just before the halftime whistle. Utah State outshot Saint Mary's 6-2 over the first 45 minutes but Kate Plachy was untested, as the Gaels backline was stout yet again as one of the best defenses in the country.

Saint Mary's held onto its lead all the way into the 89th minute, but Utah State would get the benefit of a penalty call of their own in which Mia Lopez converted the attempt to tie the game at one. The Aggies finished the match with 18 shot attempts but just one forced save, as the Gaels defense made things difficult all afternoon long. The Aggies kept their 33-game home unbeaten streak alive while the Gaels extended their current unbeaten streak to 16 games for the second longest active streak in the country.

Two penalty kicks would prove to be the difference, as Saint Mary's will head into West Coast Conference action next week unbeaten with a record of 6-0-4.

Vaughn scored her team leading seventh goal of the season with her penalty kick in the 37th minute; she is also tied for the WCC lead in goals (7)
The goal also marked the 10th of Vaughn's career
Against two ranked opponents this season, the Gaels are 0-0-2 with a scoreless draw to No. 14 Georgetown and now a 1-1 draw to No. 18 Utah State
The Gaels allowed just their third goal of the season on Sunday and now have a Goals Against Average of just 0.30
Saint Mary's extended its unbeaten streak to a program record 16 games good for the second longest active streak in the country
