Saint Mary's to Honor 29 Student-Athletes on Saturday Winter and Springs Sports Accomplishments to be Highlighted at Football Game

 

Saint Mary's to Honor 29 Student-Athletes on Saturday

Sept. 19, 2001

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's College Department of Athletics and Recreational Sports will recognize the accomplishments of 29 student-athletes who earned all-conference and all-academic awards during the 2000-01 winter and spring sports seasons on Saturday. The ceremony will take place during half time of the football game when the Gaels host Central Washington, kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Saint Mary's Stadium.

"The hard work, perseverance, and personal sacrifice of our student-athletes has proven to be outstanding, not only on the competitive field but also in the classroom," commented Mark Orr, Assistant Athletic Director for Student Services. "Each of these student-athletes epitomize excellence and the values our College represents."

During the 2000-01 academic year, a total of 23 Saint Mary's student-athletes earned academic all-conference recognition and 147 student-athletes earned Scholar-Athlete status from the College (minimum 3.20 GPA). With nearly 350 student-athletes on campus last year, 48 percent earned at least a 3.20 GPA and 27 percent made the Dean's List (minimum 3.50 GPA).
