Max Shupe joins Gaels Baseball as the Director of Operations for the 2021 season, and brings a wealth of coaching and operations experience to Moraga.
“Coach Shupe’s background and skills make him the perfect addition to the Gael Family,” head coach Greg Moore says. “He not only played at a high level, he’s worked in business and as a successful coach. His communication skills are beyond his years. Coach Shupe is on his way to making an impact in any program. I’m glad he’s joining us to impact this team.”
Shupe’s most recent coaching stint came at his alma mater of Sonoma State University, where he spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons as the infield and third base coach. There, Shupe assisted with offense, recruiting, managing the baseball facility, camps, and social media. As a Sea Wolf, Shupe earned second-team All-CCAA honors and the Newcomer of the Year award in 2010 after hitting .351 with 14 home runs and 49 RBIs.
Shupe also serves on the California Collegiate League (CCL) board as a member of the Marketing and All-Star Game committee, a position he earned during his stint with the CCL’s Healdsburg Prune Packers, where he spent the 2019 season running their internship program and handling the team’s day-to-day operations. Continuing with his recent collegiate experience, Shupe served as a Northwest NTIS task force member for USA Baseball.
Shupe holds degrees from institutions all across the Bay Area, including an Associate in Arts from San Jose City College (2009), a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Sonoma State (2011), and an MBA in Global Leadership and Management from Holy Names (2018).
