Sophie Elam joined the women's soccer program in July of 2025 as the fourth member of the team's coaching staff led by Theresa Romagnolo.
Elam originates from Medford, Oregon where she attended North Medford High School. She then started her collegiate career at prestigious Cal Tech where she lettered in women's soccer and track & field for four years. Elam was a star on and off the field as she finished her academic career with a 3.6 GPA while majoring in Environmental Science & Engineering with a concentration in Chemistry and a minor in Biology. Cal Tech is known as one of the most selective academic institutions in the country, recording a 3.1% acceptance rate in 2023 (US News and World Report).
During her time at Cal Tech, Elam was a 2025 Athletics Director’s Award recipient, 2025 Frederic W. Hinrichs Jr. Memorial Award recipient and a 2024 Donald S. Clark Award recipient, encompassing academic excellence and outstanding service and leadership in the campus community.
Over her four-year soccer career, Elam finished with one goal and one assist over 39 games played. On the track side, she recorded top-ten marks in seven events over her career and helped the team to their best ever finish in the SCIAC Championships.
Elam has been a youth soccer coach for the Rogue Valley Timbers in Portland from 2017-21 and most recently an assistant coach with LA Surf since 2024. Elam possess extensive background with Hudl and additional film/scouting services and will play a crucial role in the team’s week-to-week preparation and scouting reports throughout the season
