Women's Basketball Upended By Oregon State, 65-52

Corvallis, OR - Syesha Thomas scored 18 points to pace Oregon State (6-0) to a 65-52 victory over the Saint Mary's women's basketball team (6-1) on Sunday, December 10 at the Gill Coliseum in front of 586 fans. The loss for the Gaels is their first of the season after setting a school record with a 6-0 start.
It was a slow start for Saint Mary's as the Beavers jumped out to a 14-2 lead after 4:48 of play. The Gaels faught back, cutting the lead to 15-10 at the 8:32 mark when junior Jerkisha Dosty (Fair Oaks, CA) turned an offensive rebound into an easy basket. OSU would open the lead to 21-12 following two free throws by Felicia Ragland and a steal and lay in by Leilani Estevan. The Gaels would cut the lead to 23-19 at the two-minute mark of the half, but four turnovers at the end of the half helped the Beavers to a 28-19 advantage at the intermission.
Oregon State opened the second half with a 10-2 run to open its lead to 18 points at the 15:15 mark. The lead would reach as much as 57-34 with 4:19 remaining, but Saint Mary's continued to play hard to the end cutting the lead to 13 points at the end of regulation.
Sophomore forward Katie Davis (Manson, WA) led Saint Mary's with a career-high 18 points and added nine rebounds. Kisha was the only other Gael to reach double-figures with 14 points while twin sister Jermisha Dosty (Fair Oaks, CA) led the Gaels with 10 rebounds to go along with her nine points.
Thomas was one of four OSU player to reach double-figures in the game. The Beavers leading scorer Ragland had 17 points, Ericka Cook posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Nicole Funn added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Saint Mary's next game will be Sunday, December 17 when they travel to Seattle, WA to battle the University of Washington, its third Pac-10 opponent of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM at
