Women's Soccer Rolls On Beating Hawaii 4-1

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's soccer team (7-0-1) continued their unbeaten streak beating the University of Hawaii Rainbows (3-3), 4-1, on Garaventa Field.

The Gaels continued to pressure defenses once again, recording four goals on 17 shots. Freshman Sarah Rae Takekawa started off the scoring rally with a header in the 14:03 minute mark, assist by freshmen Katie Frattone. The Rainbows answered back with a goal of their own at the 24:00 minute mark as Arlene Devitt scored, assist given to Veronica Flores. Just before the end of the first half sophomore Jen Belzer scored her first goal of the season on a unassisted line drive from 30 yards out. The score remained 2-1 at the end of the half.

The Gaels came out determined in the second half to get their seventh win of the season. Sophomore Shauna Rech scored her third goal of the season at the 51:01 minute mark, Katie Frattone recorded the assist for her second of the day. With one minute left in the game senior Katie Sticinski recorded her first career goal on a penalty kick because of a Hawaii handball in the goalie box.

Goalkeeper Ruth Montgomery gave up her first goal since September 2, against Long Beach State. She finished with three saves on eight Hawaii shots.

Look for the Gaels to play their next non-conference match against the Sacramento State Hornets on Tuesday, October 6. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
