Men's Soccer Falls to #20 Portland, 3-2

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's men's soccer team (4-12-3/0-4-1 WCC) fell to the #20 ranked Portland Pilots (11-5-1/4-1 WCC), 3-2, on Sunday, November 10, on Garaventa Field.

The Gaels were first to score at the 9:30 minute mark when Robert Orum punched in a shot from five yards out on a double assist courtesy of Niles Almarinez and Matthew Walker.

The Pilots would tie up the score at one when Nate Jaqua found an opening in the right corner for his nineth goal of the season at the 15:42 minute mark. Sheldin Maistry earned the assist.

Portland then took the lead for the first time of the day on an Alejandro Salazar goal at the 21:18 minute mark. Maistry again earned the assist as Salazar slipped the ball to the right past SMC's keeper Kealii Kuehu.

Jady Nunan soon headed in his first goal of the season when Omid Aldaghi's free-kick was perfectly placed at the 24:27 minute mark. At the end of the first half the score was tied at two, while both team's collected eight shots.

In the second half, Eric Cronkite headed in the Pilots game-winner at the 74:20 minute mark on a Salazar cross.

Both SMC keeper Kuehu and the Pilots keeper Justin Carter recorded four saves in the game. Portland outshot the Gaels 16-9 in today's contest.

The Gaels will return to West Coast Conference action on Sunday, November 17, when they host the #23 ranked San Diego Toreros on Garaventa Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
