Moraga, CA - Junior forward Tyler Herr led the Saint Mary's men's basketball team with 20 points and 10 rebounds to an 89-87 victory over the Olympic Club in an exhibition game on Saturday night at McKeon Pavilion.
After redshirting the 2002-03 season, Herr's notched his first double-double at SMC in his first game back. Herr made 6-of-12 shots from the floor that included 4-of-8 from three-point range, and was 4-for-5 from the charity stripe. En route to his game-high 10 rebounds, Herr pulled down seven offensive boards.
Herr was not the only Gael to score in double figures against the Olympic Club as freshman forward Daniel Kickert scored 19 points in his debut. Kickert was 6-for-8 from the floor, 2-for-4 from three-point land and 6-for-9 from the foul line. He also added eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Ryan Nelson chipped in with 14 points.
As a team the Gaels shot 44.6 percent from the floor, converting 25-of-56 shots. SMC shot 36.4 percent from three-point range making 8-of-22 attempts from long range. Saint Mary's converted 31-of-42 free throws. The Olympic Club shot 51.9 percent for the game while posting a 52.6 percent clip from long range. The O-Club was 23-of-30 from the charity stripe.
Saint Mary's will open the regular season when it hosts Holy Names College on Sunday, November 24. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM in McKeon Pavilion.
