Women's Basketball Skids Past Pepperdine, 78-69

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team (12-10/6-4 WCC) kicked it into high gear in the second half to down the Pepperdine Waves (17-6/8-2 WCC), 78-69. Senior Jermisha Dosty (Fair Oaks, CA) led the Gaels with a double-double, adding 14 points and 13 rebounds.

For much of the first half, both teams would have their fare share of the lead. Neither team would have much breathing room until the 8:45 minute mark when the Waves would lead by seven after a 10-3 run. Pepperdine would extend their lead by as much as 11 after a Crystal McCutcheon lay up. The Gaels would battle back to bring them within three at the end of the first half.

Pepperdine would start the second half with a 9-4 run to stretch their lead to eight. The Gaels would then bring the game back within one after a made free throw by Jerkisha Dosty (Fair Oaks, CA) at the 14:12 minute mark. The Waves would respond with an 8-2 run, regaining their lead by seven. Both teams would exchange baskets until the Gaels took control at the 3:09 minute mark on a three-pointer from Julie Morris (Moraga, CA). With the momentum the Gaels would end the game with an 11-4 run to win.

Besides Misha's double-double, sister Kisha finished with 23 points and three rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for the Gaels was Katie Davis (Manson, WA) with 12 points and Morris with 10 points. Morris was also one rebound shy of a double-double herself. Leading the way for the Waves was Shandrika Lee, who finished with 20 points, seven steals and six rebounds.

As a team the Gaels shot 41.7 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the arc, and 68.6 from the free throw line. Pepperdine shot 36.8 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from long range and 62.5 from the charity stripe. The Waves out-rebounded the Gaels 47-44.

The Gaels will continue conference play when they host the San Diego Toreros on Friday, February 15. This game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:05 p.m in McKeon Pavilion.
