Stockton, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team confidently drove past the Pacific Tigers, 16-1, at Billy Herbert Field, tallying the Gaels' second series win. With the loss the Tigers fell to 13-5 on the season, while the Gaels improved to 6-8.
Tiger senior Jason Godkin suffered his first loss of the season (3-1) as he surrendered five runs on three hits and three walks in two innings. Saint Mary's got an impressive outing from Justin Sloan as he held the Tigers to one run on six hits in six innings for the win. Gaels reliever David Fox closed the game with three innings of scoreless relief.
The Gaels jumped on the Tigers early, scoring two runs in the first inning then exploded for six runs in both the third and the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Gilbert Gil, James Gaulke, Bryan Byrne, Nick Conte and Adam Bellows all collected two hits for the Gaels' 16 hit outburst. Bellows muscled out two homeruns, both first and second of his Saint Mary's career, while adding five RBI. Gil, Spooner, Conte and Delaney Gallagher all added doubles for the Gaels. James Gaulke recorded his first extra base hit with a triple.
The Gaels will continue non-conference action on Tuesday, March 4 at U.C. Davis. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
