Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team fell to WCC foe Loyola Marymount at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex by a final team score of 7-0. With the loss the Gaels fall to 5-6 on the season while the Lions improve to 3-3.
In doubles play, Saint Mary's started off valiantly before falling to the Lions in all three matches. The Gaels closest match came at the #1 doubles position, where teammates Catalina Fillol and Kate Harden of Saint Mary's played a close match before being defeated by Loyola Marymount's tandem of Edit Pakay and Diana Vinis by a final score of 8-5. The Lion's secured the team point when the Gaels' pair of Nicole Hunstock and Shannon Aloia were narrowly defeated by the Lion's team of Jennifer Baker and Georgie Dinham by a final score of 8-6
In singles play, Saint Mary's was defeated in all six matches by the Lions. At #1 singles, the Gaels' Kate Harden was defeated by Edit Pakay in straight-sets 6-1, 6-1. Nicole Hunstock also played well for Saint Mary's before falling to Penka Filena by a final score of 6-3, 6-0. In the longest match of the day, the Gaels' sophomore, Megan Schulman, played hard before falling to Loyola Marymount's Diana Vinis in straight-sets 6-1, 6-4. Unfortunately, Saint Mary's were defeated in straight-sets in all their matches.
The Gaels will return to the courts on Sunday, March 9 as they play host to WCC foe, Portland, with play beginning at 10:00 AM at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex.
