
Baseball Falls 6-3 to USF in the First Game of the Day

Moraga, CA - The San Francisco Dons exploded for five runs in the top of the third inning to win 6-3 against the Saint Mary's baseball team. With the loss the Gaels fall to 17-23-1/7-11-1 WCC, while the Dons improve to 17-26/10-12 WCC.
The Gaels started the game with a 2-0 lead behind a two-run homerun to right field by freshman Bryan Byrne. Byrne's third homerun of the season scored Tim Spooner, who reached on a single. Byrne finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
USF would take the lead after exploding for five runs in the third inning. Jonnie Knoble and Joe Jacobitz highlighted the inning as both batters collected a two-RBI single. After three innings of play the Dons led 5-2.
Both teams would score a run in the seventh inning as USF held on to a 6-3 lead. Mike Harris scored for the Gaels after a single by Delaney Gallagher.
Losing pitcher for the Gaels was Eric Bowden, who falls to 6-5 on the season, while Kevin Annis improves to 4-3 on the season. Derek Tate earned his second save of the season after pitching 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.
