Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's women's basketball team dropped their first game during a three-game homestand on Saturday 89-57 to UNLV at McKeon Pavilion. The Gaels allowed their highest point total of the season, as the Rebels scored 15 more points the Saint Mary's previous high. With the loss the Gaels drop to 7-6 on the season with one non-conference game remaining and the Rebels improved to 10-2.
Saint Mary's gave up 75 points to Hawaii in a loss on December 14, but during its three-game homestand the Gaels beat Nevada (76-73) and Pacific (46-45), before falling to the Rebels.
The Gaels came into the game holding opponents to 60.5 points per game and the Rebels came into the game scoring 73 points per game.
Saint Mary's fell behind 6-4 early in the first half and could never recover as the Rebels built a 41-23 halftime lead. The Gaels cut the lead to 14 in the second half with 16:52 left in the game, but the Rebels pulled away.
In the game UNLV shot 54 percent (33-61) from the field and 50 percent (9-18) from 3-point range. Saint Mary's shot 44 percent from the field (24-54) and nine percent (1-11) from 3-point range.
The Gaels were led offensively by Triola Jackson, who scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Evynn Van Burger added 14 points, Savannah Williams scored 10 points and Serena Benavente had nine points.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Monday, January 5 when they travel to Sacramento to face the Sacramento State Hornets at 6:05 p.m.
