
Baseball Falls to Washington State in Second Game of Tourney

Sacramento, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team tried to rally in the seventh and ninth inning to beat Washington State, but came up short as the Cougars held on to beat the Gaels 7-5 on Saturday in their second game of the River City Classic in Sacramento, CA. With the loss the Gaels fall to 3-8 on the season and will face Santa Clara on Sunday at 11 a.m. in their final game of the tournament.
Saint Mary's was led offensively by Sam Carter, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two home runs and Adam Bellows went 2-for-4. The Gaels' Gilbert Gil also added a hit in the loss.
The Gaels' Bryan Oland started the game and pitched seven innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and he struck out seven batters. Justin Sloan came in to pitch the final two innings, allowing one run on three hits.
Saint Mary's fell behind 6-1, before scoring two runs in the seventh and two runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Sunday, when it faces Santa Clara at 11 a.m. in the final game of the tournament.
