Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team earned its third victory of the season Friday, when it beat UC Davis by a score of 5-2. The Gaels who lost the doubles point to start off the afternoon, rallied back to capture five singles matches en route to the victory.
In singles action the Gaels were able to win five of the six matches and of the five victories only one match went to three sets. Freshman Aude Lambert earned her fourth #1 singles victory on the season when she beat Ally Muller by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Saint Mary's Kate Harden earned her fourth singles victory on the season as well when she beat Nancy Mok 6-2, 6-3 at the #2 position. At the #3 position, Megan Schulman captured her third straight match when she beat Jen Fong by a score of 6-1, 7-5.
Saint Mary's Kristen Kummer earned her second victory on the season in a marathon match at the #4 position. Facing the Aggies Yuka Otaka, Kummer recorded some timely aces to comeback and win 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (2). At the #5 position Nicole Hunstock captured her fourth singles win as well when she beat Audrey Wingo 6-1, 6-2.
The lone singles loss for the Gaels came at the #6 position where Anne-Joy de Graan fell to Luna Tieu in a close match 7-5, 6-4.
In doubles action the Gaels were only able two win one match and started off the day by losing the point. The lone doubles victory for the Gaels came at the #3 position where the duo of Harden and Kummer recorded their seventh victory of the season by defeating Ashley Lehman and Amanda Wise 8-6. The Saint Mary's tandem of Lambert and Hunstock had their six match winning streak snapped when they fell to Muller and Mok 8-3 at the #1 position. The Gaels' Dunya Stankovic and Schulman dropped their match as well, falling to Christy Battig and Fong in a tight match 9-8 (6).
Saint Mary's (3-9) returns to action Saturday, March 13 when it travels to Los Gatos to face San Jose State University at 11:00 AM.
