
Baseball Drops Final Game Against Cal

Berkeley, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team fell short of taking a three-game series against the California Golden Bears by losing 11-5 on Sunday at Evans Diamond in Berkeley, CA. The Gaels tied the three game series at 1-1 with a 2-1 win over Cal on Saturday, but dropped the final game of the series. With the loss the Gaels drop to 4-15 on the season, while the Bears improved to 10-11.
Saint Mary's fell behind 2-0 after the first inning, but came back to take a 4-2 lead after the top of the third inning. But the Bears answered with three runs in the bottom of the third, two more in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the fifth for a 10-4 lead after five innings. Both teams added one more run late in the game.
Offensively the Gaels were led by Bryan Byrne, who had three RBI on a double in the third inning. Gilbert Gil and Adam Bellows each had one hit and one RBI and Mike Sansoe and Preston Young each added a hit.
The Gaels' Allan Lobban picked up the loss, dropping his record to 0-3 on the season.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Tuesday, March 16 when it hosts Nevada at 2 p.m. at Louis Guisto Field.
