
Baseball Drops Final Game of Series to Pepperdine

Moraga, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series against Pepperdine 8-3 on Saturday afternoon at Louis Guisto Field. With the loss the Gaels drop to 3-8 in West Coast Conference play and 8-26 overall. Pepperdine improved to 11-1 in conference and 17-16 overall.
Saint Mary's got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the second inning after Preston Young walked with one out and advanced to second on a Mike Sansoe sacrifice bunt. Young scored when Gilbert Gil singled past the second baseman for a 1-0 lead.
Pepperdine came back with two runs, one in the third and one in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Gaels added one run to tie the game 2-2. Saint Mary's Delaney Gallagher opened the inning with a double to left centerfield and scored on a Pepperdine error on a ground ball by Young.
In the fifth inning, the Waves broke a 2-2 tie when they scored three runs in the inning off starting pitcher Dane Dobrinich. Pepperdine tacked on one run in the sixth and two in the seventh for an 8-2 lead.
The Gaels added one run in the ninth inning on a Young single to right field scoring Adam Bellows.
Offensively, the Gaels were led by Delaney Gallagher and Gilbert Gil, who each went 2-for-3 and Adam Bellows went 2-for-5.
The Gaels return to action on Tuesday, April 13 when they host UC Davis for a non-conference game at 2 p.m. at Louis Guisto Field. Saint Mary's returns to West Coast Conference action on Friday, April 16 when it hosts San Francisco at 2 p.m. at Louis Guisto Field.
