Moraga, CA- The Saint Mary's women's tennis team snapped its three match losing streak when it blanked the visiting San Jose State Spartans 7-0 on Thursday afternoon. The Gaels did not concede a single match on the day sweeping the Spartans on all courts. Only one singles match saw three sets while Saint Mary's improved its record to 8-13.
The Gaels started off the afternoon by sweeping all the doubles matches. At the #1 doubles position Aude Lambert and Nicole Hunstock evened their record at 10-10 when they combined to blank Elke Harms and Larijani 8-0. At the #2 position Megan Schulman and Dunya Stankovic teamed up to defeat Ana Lukner and Lee 8-3. The Saint Mary's tandem of Kate Harden and Kristen Kummer combined to earn their team leading 13th victory by defeating Kathy Van and Koenigsfeld 8-4.
In singles action the Gaels kept their momentum going as they did not give up a match on the afternoon. At the #1 position Lambert earned her tenth victory on the season by defeating Harms 6-1, 6-4. At the #2 position Harden also earned her team leading tenth victory by beating Van in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6. At the #3 position Schulman beat Lukner in the only three set match by a score of 6-4, 4-6 (10-6).
At the #4 position Kummer defeated Lee in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 while Hunstock earned her tenth singles victory as well by defeating Pua 6-1, 6-0 at the #5 position. At the #6 position Anne-Joy de Graan defeated Koenigsfeld 6-2, 6-1.
Saint Mary's (8-13) returns to action for its last match of the regular season on Saturday, April 17 when it hosts West Coast Conference rival Santa Clara at Noon at the Korth Tennis Complex.
