Baseball Drops Final Game of Series to Santa Clara

Santa Clara, CA - The Saint Mary's baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series against Santa Clara 14-6 on Sunday afternoon at Buck Shaw Stadium. With the loss the Gaels fall to 6-12 in West Coast Conference play and 12-30 overall. Santa Clara improved to 8-10 in conference and 19-23 overall.
Saint Mary's fell behind 3-0 after the first inning, but bounced back with five runs in the second inning. Preston Young led off the inning with a solo home run. Mike Harris doubled home Stefan Foushee and Bryan Byrne capped off the inning with a three-run home run to right centerfield.
The Gaels added one run in the seventh inning on an Adam Thompson RBI double.
Santa Clara scored two runs in the third inning and six runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
Offensively, the Gaels were led by Harris, who went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI, Byrne added three RBI on his sixth home run of the season, and Thompson and Young each added an RBI. Young's RBI came on his fourth home run of the season and second in consecutive days.
Saint Mary's returns to action on Tuesday, April 27, when it travels to San Jose, CA to face the San Jose State Spartans at 7 p.m.
