
Baseball Drops Second Game to Gonzaga

Spokane, WA - The Saint Mary's baseball team fell to the Gonzaga Bulldogs 7-2 on Saturday afternoon in Spokane, WA. The loss drops the Gaels' West Coast Conference record to 7-19 and overall record to 14-37. Gonzaga improved to 15-11 in conference and 23-26 overall.
Saint Mary's scored their two lone runs of the game in the seventh as Sam Carter connected for his seventh home run of the season. Adam Bellows also scored on the shot after opening the inning with a double. Saint Mary's threatened again in the ninth loading the bases against Clelland before John Gonzalez forced Stefan Foushee into a ground out to end the game. Gonzalez picked up his second save of the weekend and fifth of the season.
Gonzaga's offense backed up Clelland's performance all afternoon as the Bulldogs pounded out 13 hits. Brad Welker started the Bulldogs seven run day with a two-run double in the second. Kiel Thibault added two more runs in the third as he connected for a two-run home run to right. David Johnson picked up an RBI to close out the third with a sacrifice fly, Johnson's 50th RBI of the season.
Welker came around to score the Zags sixth run on a double play ball in the fourth while Matt Reding drove home the game's final run with an RBI double in the eighth. Jordan Simo tossed a complete game for Saint Mary's falling to 5-8 on the year.
Five Gonzaga players finished with two hits with Marshall Bratton, Carlson, Johnson, Reding and Welker all getting two base knocks. Delaney Gallagher and Carter had two hits for Saint Mary's.
The two teams face off against each other for the final time of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m.
