Baseball Beats Nevada, Wins Series

Reno, NV - The Saint Mary's baseball team received another solid pitching performance by senior Jordan Simo, as the Gaels won the final game of a three-game series with Nevada 9-5 on Sunday afternoon at Peccole Park in Reno, NV. With the win the Gaels win the series, taking two games from the Wolf Pack and improve to 5-11 overall.
Simo, starting his third consecutive Sunday, improved to 2-2 by pitching eight, allowing five earned runs on nine hits. Mike Nisco pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.
The Gaels once again opened up the offense, posting nine runs on 11 hits, including three home runs.
Saint Mary's took an early two-run lead in the third inning after Cody Nelson hit his third home run of the season and third of the series. Nelson's home run came after a Mike Sansoe single.
The Gaels scored one run in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth inning, Adam Hicks doubled home Delaney Gallagher and in the fifth, Sansoe scored on a wild pitch.
Saint Mary's added two runs in the seventh and eighth and one run in the ninth. In the seventh, Sansoe and Orben Frederick each hit solo home runs and in the eighth Sansoe hit a two-out two-run single.
Sansoe finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored, Gallagher went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Nelson went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
The Gaels return to action on Tuesday, March 15 when they host Sacramento State at 2 p.m. at Louis Guisto Field.
