Saint Mary's Signs Michelle Jacoby to Four-Year Contract

Moraga, CA - Saint Mary's Director of Athletics Carl R. Clapp announced the signing of head women's basketball coach Michelle Jacoby to a four-year contract on Monday afternoon. The new contract will ink Jacoby through the 2008-09 season.
"Michelle has done a terrific job as our head women's basketball coach. She's demonstrated the ability to field competitive teams and her student-athletes have excelled in the classroom," Clapp said.
Jacoby wrapped up her fifth season as head coach of the Gaels, a fourth place finish in the West Coast Conference. Jacoby finished the season with a 15-13 overall record and her career record now stands at 83-63.
"Under Michelle's leadership, I am confident that our women's basketball program will continue to experience success and I look forward to watching this young team develop," Clapp said. "We appreciate Michelle's extended commitment to Saint Mary's College and the women in the basketball program."
Jacoby was hired on April 28, 2000 after being an assistant coach with the Gaels for three years. Under Jacoby the Gaels have made one NCAA Tournament appearance, making it to the second round, and one WNIT Tournament appearance.
"Saint Mary's has always been the place I've wanted to be and I'm fortunate to coach at a place I have a lot of passion for," Jacoby said. "I'm excited about the opportunity to be here and about the future of the women's basketball program."
This season Jacoby once again led a young, talented team to a fourth place finish in the WCC. The Gaels will return three starters from this year's team and will return two starters from 2003-04 who missed the 2004-05 season.
Jacoby has again brought in another exciting, talented recruiting class for the upcoming season, and the excitement is beginning to build for 2005-06.
"I'm excited about the program, I think we have it going in the right direction," Jacoby said.
